I have not heard this group before--was only aware of Butterfield as a sideman for Artie Shaw, etc. Anyway, nothing spectacular, but a very capable band, with lots of very nice solos provided by Butterfield. The program contains a little of everything--more swing than not--with no sappy ballads. Butterfield also sings--don't know why, his voice is pathetic, as well as two other singers--they are not very good either, but there is more instrumental than not--that saves the remote. I would certainly recommend this CD for those of us out there who love to collect big band music, and especially wish to hear recordings/remotes beyond the Millers, Dorseys, and Goodmans. Really, the sound quality is quite good considering this was a remote, and there is narration by Butterfield himself. The group is somewhat mature in style--sounding more toward the late 1940's than the early 1940's or late 1930's. The sound throughout is commercial, and not quite so jazz related (as in Charlie Barnett, or Woody Herman at the same period).
